We have been in our new home for a week and a day!
It feels a lot like camping right now. There’s a lot of mud in the yard, dirt and dust. Our future garden awaits. The bathroom is a bit rough. No sink and no shower curtain. We are living out of boxes and suitcases right now. There’s no kitchen, and due to the rainy season we can’t make a campfire. So we eat out everyday. It’s a good reason to try new places, but I confess that I have my favorites. There’s a comedor behind the church that is amazing. Abuela level food cooked over a wood fire. The prices are very affordable.
It is also GREAT to be living in our home and experience what building a home looks like. Yeah, it’s not comfortable, but it is real. We can talk to Victor and Luis daily as things arise, as our opinions/decisions are needed. We see things in real time when they arise, like two leaks that are visible, because we chose not to bury the copper plumbing (which I think looks cool and industrial in the bathroom).
What is happening right now?
The kitchen’s dropped ceiling is being installed. Once that is done, the appliances can be installed. Hallelujah!

The first floor bathroom’s built-in sink and cupboard are being built. It is made of polished concrete.

We have a big walk-in closet under the staircase, and the tile floor went in this week. I love it already. Plenty of room to store things.
My built-in bookcase is now done.

We spend a lot of time upstairs in the guest bedroom, where we have set up our laptops on a table. We take naps on the petate. Future guests take note, this room rocks. The views are beautiful, lots of light, and cozy. We sleep downstairs in Fede’s studio where the bed is set up.
¡Llevamos una semana y un día en nuestra nueva casa!
Ahora mismo se siente como si estuviéramos acampando. Hay mucho lodo en el patio, tierra y polvo adentro. Nos espera nuestro futuro jardín. El baño está un poco limitado. No hay lavabo ni cortina de ducha. Vivimos con cajas y maletas. No hay cocina y debido a la temporada de lluvias, no podemos hacer fogata afuera. Así que comemos fuera todos los días. Es una buena razón para probar nuevos lugares, pero confieso que tengo mis favoritos. Hay un comedor detrás de la iglesia que es increíble. Comida casera cocinada a la leña. Los precios son muy asequibles.
También es GENIAL vivir en nuestra casa y experimentar cómo es construir una. Sí, no es cómodo, pero es real. Podemos hablar con Víctor y Luis a diario cuando surgen cosas, ya cuando necesitan nuestras opiniones y decisiones. Vemos las cosas en tiempo real cuando surgen, como dos fugas visibles, porque decidimos no enterrar las tuberías de cobre (que me parece que quedan geniales e industriales en el baño).
¿Qué está pasando ahora mismo?
Se está instalando el falso techo de la cocina. Una vez hecho, se pueden instalar los electrodomésticos. ¡Genial!
Se está construyendo el lavabo y el armario empotrados del baño de la primera planta. Son de concreto pulido.
Tenemos un closet grande debajo de la escalera, y el suelo de loseta se instaló esta semana. Me encanta. Tiene mucho espacio para guardar cosas.
Mi estantería empotrada ya está lista para pintar.
Pasamos mucho tiempo arriba, en la habitación de invitados, donde hemos puesto los laptops sobre una mesa. Nos echamos la siesta en el petate. Que los futuros huéspedes tomen nota, esta habitación es genial. Las vistas son preciosas; es un cuarto muy luminoso y acogedor. Dormimos abajo, en el estudio de Fede, donde está la cama.
