Stairs and ironwork - Escaleras y herrajes

 There’s a lot going on with the house.  I know I say that most every update.  

The interior stairs are going in.  There is going to be some ironwork for the handrails and also ironwork in an open space next to the fireplace.  So I have immersed myself in ironwork designs.  Here is a photo of the current open space and the ironwork we like.  

Also we are looking at beds, a kitchen table that we can use on our porch (and move inside as needed).  Bathroom sinks.

We are starting out with minimal to no furniture, and I want to get a sense of the space before we buy a lot of furniture.  So if you are visiting us in 2025, lower your expectations about furniture, just saying.  I am also really into sitting on the ground.  Read this cool blog post to see where my head is at.  My studio space here in our rental home reflects that.  I mostly sit on the ground.  

Big kudos to Luis for the gorgeous ironwork gate that just got installed this past week.

Hay muchas cosas en la casa. Sé que digo eso en casi todas las actualizaciones.

Se están instalando las escaleras interiores. Habrá algunos herrajes para los pasamanos y también herrajes en un espacio abierto junto a la chimenea. Así que me he sumergido en los diseños de herrería. Aquí hay una foto del espacio abierto actual y los herrajes que nos gustan.

También estamos pensando en camas, una mesa de cocina que podemos usar en nuestro corredor (y moverla hacia adentro según sea necesario). Estamos comenzando con muebles mínimos o sin muebles, y quiero tener una idea del espacio antes de comprar muchos muebles. Entonces, si nos visita en 2025, baje sus expectativas sobre los muebles, solo digo. También me gusta mucho sentarme en el suelo. Lea esta interesante publicación del blog para ver dónde está mi cabeza. Mi espacio de estudio aquí en nuestra casa de alquiler refleja eso. La mayoría de las veces me siento en el piso.

Everyday brings progress. Cada día trae progreso.

 Here are some photos from this week’s visits, with updates.  

Architect Luis (son of the architect Victor) is standing in front of the staircase that he made, and that will take you up to the second floor.  It will be painted a dark brown color and have a handrail.

The cisterns are now covered with concrete and eventually will not be visible at all. I envision hooping in that area.

Victor is working with the electricians on the solar panel system, which includes me preparing an inventory of all the electrical devices we use or will use in our home.  It’s certainly very handy that I had to prepare an inventory of these devices for customs when we shipped our stuff to Mexico.  I did need to expand and add things that we currently don’t own, like a fridge, vacuum cleaner, washer, air fryer, etc.  

I am also starting to research beds.  What kinds, where to buy, bed sizes (Mexican bed sizes are a little bit different than US bed sizes).  Paul and Aurelia visited us this week, and made their second visit to the construction site.  Gave us great advice on where and how to hang hammocks on the terrace. 

We also brought the construction crew fresh tamales this week, and Victor brought atole, as a way to appreciate their awesome work.  No photo of that.

Aquí hay algunas fotos de las visitas de esta semana, con noticias.

El arquitecto Luis (hijo del arquitecto Víctor) está de pie frente a la escalera que él hizo y que te llevará al segundo piso. Estará pintada de un color cafe oscuro y tendrá un pasamanos.

Las cisternas ahora están cubiertas de concreto y eventualmente no serán visibles en absoluto. Me imagino bailando con mi aro en esa área.

Víctor está trabajando con los electricistas en el sistema de paneles solares, lo que incluye que yo preparo un inventario de todos los electrodomésticos que usamos o usaremos en nuestra casa. Sin duda, es muy útil que haya tenido que preparar un inventario de estos para la aduana mexicana cuando enviamos nuestras cosas a México hace casi 4 años. Tuve que expandir y agregar cosas que actualmente no tenemos, como un refrigerador, una aspiradora, una lavadora, una freidora de aire, etc.

También estoy comenzando a investigar sobre camas. Qué tipos, dónde comprar, tamaños de cama (los tamaños de cama mexicanos son un poco diferentes a los tamaños de cama estadounidenses). Paul y Aurelia nos visitaron esta semana y realizaron su segunda visita a la obra. Nos dieron muy buenos consejos sobre dónde y cómo colgar hamacas en la terraza.

También trajimos tamales frescos al equipo de construcción esta semana, y Víctor trajo atole, como una forma de apreciar su increíble trabajo. Ninguna foto de eso...

Cisterns and porch columns

 A lot is happening at the construction site, and here are some recent photos.

The cisterns are being dug.  We will have two cisterns.  

One is a rainwater cistern, as we will be capturing rainwater from the roof and storing it to water our garden.  With the drought conditions that our region faces, this is a really important practice.  

Another cistern is connected to the municipal water supply, and that is the water we will be using for daily life, i.e. cooking, bathing, etc.  

The other photos showcase the beautiful wood columns for our porch.  We will be hanging a hammock or two from them.

Están sucediendo muchas cosas en la obra y aquí hay algunas fotos recientes.

Se están excavando las cisternas. Tendremos dos cisternas.

Una es una cisterna para agua de lluvia, ya que captamos el agua de lluvia del techo y la almacenamos para regar nuestro jardín. Con las condiciones de sequía que enfrenta nuestra región, esta es una práctica realmente importante.

Otra cisterna está conectada al suministro de agua municipal y esa es el agua que usaremos para la vida diaria, es decir, para cocinar, bañarnos, etc.

Las otras fotos muestran las hermosas columnas de madera para nuestro corredor. Colgaremos una hamaca o dos de ellas.
