Pueblo moments - Fiestas

 Besides sharing updates on the house, I love sharing moments here in the village. Here is the fiesta edition. 

November 20 was Revolution Day, i.e. a day to celebrate the Mexican Revolution with parades.  This year the parade went right by our house, which meant that neighbors and myself were busy sweeping and making the front of our properties nice.  It was a nice little social moment.   

Here’s a photo of our front gate and fence.  We are having a tile roof installed over the pedestrian door.  Fede planted the cempasuchil for the Day of the Dead.  

Here’s a photo of the parade below, which consists of a small band of musicians and student groups doing some dancing/movement, escorted by the municipal police and parents/teachers.  

The other fiesta, the MEGA fiesta, is the one for our village’s patron saint, St. Andrew.  This consists of a lot of activities, which you can see on this flier.  This is the first time that I will get to experience it, as many of the activities happen in the evening, and I generally didn’t like going into the pueblo on mototaxi at night, and those stop running at 8 pm.  Now it’s just a 5 minute walk to the hub of activity at the church and/or plaza.  The downside of this fiesta are constant fireworks, which leave our poor dog shaking.  Some dogs are indifferent.  Sorpresa is terrified.  

Además de compartir novedades sobre la casa, me encanta compartir momentos aquí en el pueblo. Aquí está la edición de las fiestas.

El 20 de noviembre fue el Día de la Revolución, para celebrar la Revolución Mexicana con desfiles. Este año, el desfile pasó justo frente a nuestra casa, lo que significó que los vecinos y yo estuvimos ocupados barriendo y embelleciendo la fachada de nuestras propiedades. Fue un momento agradable para socializar.

Aquí hay una foto de nuestra puerta principal y su cerca. Estamos instalando un techo de tejas sobre la puerta peatonal. Fede plantó cempasúchil para el Día de Muertos.

Aquí hay una foto del desfile, que consiste en una pequeña banda de músicos estudiantiles y grupos de estudiantes bailando, escoltados por la policía municipal y padres y maestros.

La otra fiesta, la MEGA fiesta, es la del santo patrón de nuestro pueblo, San Andrés. Esta incluye muchas actividades, que pueden ver en este volante. Esta es la primera vez que lo voy a vivir, ya que muchas de las actividades son por la noche, y generalmente no me gustaba ir al pueblo en mototaxi de noche, ya que estos dejan de circular a las 8 p.m. Ahora solo tengo que caminar 5 minutos para llegar al centro de la actividad en la iglesia o la plaza. Lo malo de esta fiesta son los constantes cohetes, que dejan a nuestro pobre perro temblando. Algunos perros son indiferentes. Sorpresa está aterrorizada.

Water in and water out - Entrada y salida de agua

Our water line from the municipal water line to our cistern has been installed.  We chose to use copper, which is the recommended material for water pipes.  It is very durable, corrosion-resistant, and has natural antimicrobial properties that help maintain water purity. Copper is a long-lasting material that can withstand high temperatures and pressure, and it is also highly recyclable.  Copper is also more expensive, but we will only install these once. The orange thin pipes are the water line to the cistern. To the right are the two cisterns.

The big white PVC pipe is the drainage pipe from our service patio to the street.  Taking photos as a way to document and remember, as we will be doing a lot of planting in these areas.  Victor will also be putting gravel once the pipes are buried, so we have a visible indicator as we plant and dig.  I am so excited to garden!  

Ya instalamos la tubería de agua que conecta la red municipal con nuestra cisterna. Elegimos usar cobre, el material recomendado para tuberías de agua potable. Es muy duradero, resistente a la corrosión y tiene propiedades antimicrobianas naturales que ayudan a mantener la pureza del agua. El cobre es un material de larga duración que soporta altas temperaturas y presión, y además es altamente reciclable. Si bien el cobre es más caro, solo instalaremos estas tuberías una vez. Las tuberías delgadas de color naranja son la tubería de agua que va a la cisterna. La tubería grande de PVC blanca es la de desagüe que conecta nuestro patio de servicio con la calle. Tomamos fotos para documentar y recordar, ya que plantaremos mucho en estas áreas. Víctor también colocará grava una vez que las tuberías están enterradas, para que tengamos una referencia visual al plantar y excavar. ¡Estoy muy emocionada por empezar a jardinear!
