We are in the home stretch. I know I have been saying that for a while. Ha! I’ve been out and about buying bathroom fixtures, like this nice black showerhead for the guest bathroom.
Federico and I are thinking about the outdoor kitchen, which will be traditional, i.e. comal, a grill, a place to cook a pot of beans over the fire. Old school. Here’s a photo of a kitchen I love and know. Minerva is a traditional Ayuuk cook who offers cooking classes in her home in Atzompa, which I highly recommend if you come for a visit. I definitely want to copy a lot here. Her garden is also fantastic; she grows a lot of edible plants.
The terrace floor repair took a solid week of work, and it’s done. It looks fantastic and now drains quickly! They also installed a larger size drain, because when it rains here it RAINS. That was a recommendation of our friend Odilia. This project has been a lot of learning from others' experiences and homes. Copying and borrowing ideas freely. I am grateful for the support of many people in this build, and Victor for being open to new ideas and improvements.
The exterior stairs to the terrace are done!
What’s next? Finishing the bathrooms this month. Installing the solar panels (that will be a whole post). Installing the guest room closet. Installing the rest of the light fixtures inside and out. The video doorbell installation. Putting up hammock hooks!
Estamos en la recta final. Sé que llevo un tiempo diciendo esto. ¡Ja! He estado yendo de un lado a otro comprando accesorios para los baños, como esta bonita regadera negra para el baño de visitas.
Federico y yo estamos pensando en la cocina de humo, que será tradicional; es decir: un comal, una parrilla y un espacio para cocinar una olla de frijoles directamente al fuego. Al viejo estilo. Aquí tienen una foto de una cocina que me encanta y que conozco bien. Minerva es una cocinera Ayuuk que ofrece clases de cocina en su casa en Atzompa, algo que recomiendo si vienen de visita. Definitivamente quiero copiar muchas cosas de aquí. Su jardín también es fantástico; cultiva una gran variedad de plantas comestibles.
La reparación del piso de la terraza requirió una semana entera de trabajo, ¡y ya está terminada! Se ve fantástica y ahora el agua drena rápidamente. También instalaron un desagüe de mayor tamaño, porque cuando llueve aquí... ¡realmente llueve! Esa fue una recomendación de nuestra amiga Odilia. Este proyecto ha sido, en gran medida, un proceso de aprendizaje basado en las experiencias y los hogares de otras personas; copiando y tomando prestadas ideas con total libertad. Estoy muy agradecida por el apoyo de tantas personas durante esta construcción, además que Victor ha sido abierto a todas estas ideas.
La escalera exterior a la terraza ya esta terminado.
¿Qué sigue? Terminar los baños este mismo mes. Instalar los paneles solares (eso dará para una publicación entera). Instalar el closet de la habitación de visitas. Colocar el resto de las luminarias, tanto en el interior como en el exterior. Instalar el timbre con cámara de video. ¡Y colocar los ganchos para las hamacas!
